The SEC tapped Carlo V. di Florio, a Partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers, to head the SEC’s Office of Compliance Inspections and Examinations (“OCIE”), which conducts inspections of brokerage firms, investment advisors, hedge fund managers, mutual funds, and other entities.   OCIE has been blamed for contributing to the breakdown that allowed the Madoff multi-billion fraud to go undetected for as long as it did.  In a statement released by di Florio, he vowed to work with the OCIE staff to strengthen the department’s examination strategy, training programs, processes, and systems.
